NATURAL HIGH SCHOOLS PROGRAMME
FEEDBACK - BIRMINGHAM AUTUMN 2005/SPRING 2006

VISITOR QUOTATIONS

A very well presented session, the students were fully engaged and participated throughout, loads of energy and enthusiasm. The presentation covered more issues than I expected with interesting inclusion of ASBO’s Citizenship and legal drugs, plus extensive promotion of helpline numbers and key messages, the students were very positive and the ones I spoke to had enjoyed the session and had picked up a number of those key messages. An excellent presentation in all respects which could be used to enhance a schools drug education programme, schools must use a resource like this within and planned structure and also be able to support pupils and deal with questions and issues that may arise. Birmingham Health Education Unit

Great exuberance and enthusiasm, building on self esteem and choices, great energy, I liked the links to the community – even litter and other things the students are involved in.  Great to see the way the students enthusiasm was built up from looking around to see what others were doing to just joining in. a really enjoyable session, great to see how the messages are being delivered in secondary school. Life Education Centres West Midlands

The presentation was better than I expected, I spoke to several students who said that they had learned not to take drugs and when encouraged said they’d learned about the help lines etc. I would recommend the Natural High Schools Programme as a complementary part of drug education, my daughter saw David at her school years ago and she is now 22 and still remembers the message.  Excellent presentation, good that written info is to follow up later and teachers will have the chance to talk about it and reinforce the message. David has an excellent way of getting the room to tidy and empty at the end of the show, good mix of talk/info and activity, the students were generally very good and joined in well, I will be singing Natural High all week now! Drugs Intervention Team – Birmingham Magistrates Court

The presentation was excellent and was not boring sat all, it was very exciting and very upbeat, good interaction with the children and they could relate to what was being said/sang. The children need to be informed of drugs and their negative affects as prevention is better than cure. I would recommend the Natural High Presentation as I am a drug worker and see young offenders committing crime to pay for their Drugs/Class A dependency, we need to get the message across before the students leave school. Drugs Worker – Her Majesties Prison Birmingham

The presentation was just the right length to keep the students attention, as a drug worker I feel it’s so important to target these ages, the presentation is a vital part of their learning process. David enthusiasm is unlimited, it was fantastic to see the pupils so “into it”, they seemed to thoroughly enjoyed it and participated really well. David has a great rapport with the students, FANTASTIC! what positive motivation for all – including myself.

Excellent in all respects, all of the students joined in and enjoyed the work sessions. Drugs Worker – Her Majesties Prison Service Birmingham

A well planned, well paced presentation with well stated ground rules and control of audience, good range of activities with effective link and good repetition of main message. Particularly suitable in this school (Bishop Vesey’s), positive, enthusiastic well behaved students, but would like to see effectiveness in an inner city comp. Back up, ongoing work would be beneficial to keep the message going and reiterate the main points, students enjoyed the presentation and spoke very favourable about it. An energetic, well presented presentation.

Good timing, David didn’t give the students time to get bored or chatty, it was a good idea not to let the participants know in advance what is happening, the element of surprise works well. The young people obviously enjoyed it, well presented and very entertaining, I was glad to see the local young persons drugs service promoted as well as FRANK etc. the students enjoyed it immensely, very interactive and well paced, the students engaged well. A very well planned and executed presentation, David is very good at engaging the audience and shows a lot of enthusiasm considering how many times he must have done this presentation. Great, fantastic and always held the students attention, I would recommend this presentation to other schools especially local primary and special school. Aston & Nechells Learning Consortium

The presentation was not what I expected at all, the interactive aspect was fantastic, which helped to keep the kids and “grown ups” engaged. I liked that the presentation didn’t blind the audience with facts and figures, which tends to go over people’s heads, the kids were able to keep focused and digest the drugs message, the students were totally absorbed. The pocket sized helpline card was a brilliant concept, especially the dual function as a Buy One Get One Free, presented in an enthusiastic, friendly way with great connection will all present. The students really seemed to enjoy the presentation and found it fun, excellent in all respects. Drugs Worker – Her Majesties Prison Service Birmingham

David enthusiasm is infectious, I recommend a bit of research into positive reinforcement behaviour strategies for further excellence, I had been told how good the presentation was by my colleagues and in an interactive way that most pupils this age really enjoy. Great use of active ways of maintaining discipline, the winning slogans demonstrated the message had been heard, “don’t take drugs” was the initial response form the students, when encouraged they added discussion about a Natural High and the majority of students were on a high.  The students were keen to take part, I would recommend the presentation to all secondary schools, an excellent presentation in all respects.
