NATURAL HIGH SCHOOLS PROGRAMME
FEEDBACK - BIRMINGHAM 2005

TEACHER QUOTATIONS

Very organised and professional, excellent, brilliant. John Willmott High School

David comes across as he genuinely loves and believes what he is presenting, which is very entertaining and enjoyable to listen to. I didn’t know what to expect, I had heard it was good so his reputation proceeded him. I like the idea of giving an alternative, the presentation enhances our healthy schools programme. The kids all listened, they were really engrossed by what was going on. Teachers and students thought it was excellent.  John Willmott High School

The show was very good and had all of the pupils were involved, this was a lot better than I expected. Professional and fun.
John Willmott High School

Interesting, pacey, boys were quiet and attentive when asked to be, but enjoyed the participation. David is a natural entertainer, I have seen this show four times now and I haven’t been bored by it at all. The presentation compliments our PHSE and Citizenship, as we touch on the drugs issue and discuss drugs related issues in assemblies and form time. Included topics and interests like football, games, slogans, fun and prizes which helps make the presentation suitable for the target audience. The repetition of ‘Natural High’ – ‘own talents’ – ‘Finding your own and using your own’ during the presentation was excellent and constant reinforcement of advice given in school. Lively, entertaining, and the comments from students were great – it was fun, liked the football, loved the singing and told us things we didn’t know about drugs – interesting. Kings Norton Boys School

Four years later and well done David you always give more than 100%, the students love the interaction, well done great show. Students loved it, even our year 10 students remember the words to Natural High. Kings Norton Boys School

Very structured and focused, pitched at the right level. Excellent in all respects, the students seemed to learn a lot and enjoy it.

Excellent timing and very interactive, a good insight into moral/cultural development for the pupils. This presentation complements our current PHSE and Citizenship with regards to drugs/sports/pastime. Teachers were surprised at how well the kids behaved, the students were very excited. Handsworth Boys Grammar School

David’s sense of humour really comes over and gets the kids attention, teachers were very impressed and the students enjoyed and learned. Yardleys School

Well maintained pace, David is a good role model, the presentation was enthusiastic and informative. Students will make good use of wallet/purse helpline cards. Keeping this amount of kids entertained and informed for this long is not an easy job, well done.
Small Heath School

The presentation was up to its usual high standard, it addresses a variety of issues – drugs/drink/smoking etc. which is very suitable for the target audience. Students enjoyed it very much and got the message in a lively and active way, the teachers were very positive, come back anytime. Small Heath School

Excellent at maintaining interest and gained enthusiasm, I have seen the presentation before and it is consistently good.  Enjoyed by both teachers and students. Small Heath School

David has a great understanding of the kids, message conveyed in an understanding way which is lots of fun. To the point and kept the kids engaged, the students enjoyed it tremendously and in the past have talked about it for a long time afterwards.
Fairfax School

David is a confident speaker, good to get the kids involved. Very positive message and put across the message well, David was able to get more pupil interaction than teachers in class. The teachers were interested in the performance and happy to take part/help and the students really got into the performance, it kept their attention. Fairfax School

Our year 7 were kept interested and involved throughout the presentation, this is exactly what they needed. Good clear message, excellent. Colmers Farm School

Very good, really engaging, informative but still fun. Colmers Farm School

Excellent presentation, not too overloaded, the music keeps the momentum going and the competitions a chance for students to feel special. Lively and professional – I’d like David’s energy bottled so I can buy some! Pupils were really involved and stayed focused throughout. Colmers Farm School

Cockshut Hill School

I have never been in an assembly where the students have been so captivated with a presentation. I did not know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised, these students became more understandable. The interactive nature of the presentation made issues around PHSE and Citizenship more real.  College High School

This is the second time I have seen this presentation, it is excellent. Positive and enjoyable for all.
Cockshut Hill School

In reference to complementing our PHSE and Citizenship the presentation was over and above, it was informative and awareness raising on issues related in and around illegal drugs. Excellent presentation and performance.
Head of PHSE – College High School

Very professional, definitely to my expectation, excellent! Links very well with our PHSE lessons, very good. Pupils and staff loved it, they listened very well and it was made very clear for them to understand. A fantastic way to learn about the dangers. Absolutely fab! All pupils engaged all afternoon in a positive message. We need more projects like this one.
Head of Year 7 – College High School

David really engaged them at their level and boosted their confidence. David has been here before and previous Heads of Year have reccommened him, but it was better than I expected. The programme broke up a very serious message and kept the children engaged, excellent. Archbishop Ilsley High School

Brilliant student participation – controlled effectively. Pupils were attentive and interested throughout and really enjoyed the competitions and involvement. It was pleasing to hear positive references to the police as a source of support/advise, very good, really enjoyable. Archbishop Ilsley High School

Fun, high energy and exciting presentation. Good interaction with the pupils, enjoyable and fun.
Archbishop Ilsley High School

Totally professional – as close to a performance in a theatre some of our students will ever see, I loved the comment about being a good citizen, means even thinking about litter. The messages really get home, please come back – it helps bring our PHSE programme come alive, it is so popular at present, young people are having to think about their lives. We would like to be a performing arts status school – it is good for our students to see how messages can be put across, very appropriate, really good.
Handsworth Wood Girls School

Every pupil was very much engaged in the presentation and they enjoyed themselves. You are very professional and encouraging, telling us not to take drugs and also explaining their dangers. We are living in a very much changed society and there are plenty of opportunity of going down the wrong road, please continue to help our young people. The information presented was most valuable, each student had a card with essential contact numbers, the music, competitions and message complement a very difficult topic to get over to a varied group coming from a variety of social backgrounds most balanced performance, enjoyed and most appreciated.
Handsworth Wood Girls School

I liked the lively approach, a hard job to get them all involved first thing on a Monday morning but it worked! Excellent in all respects.
International School

Bright and positive, enjoyed by all and the student took in the information. International School

Very youth culture friendly, cool, excellent in all respects. Castle Vale School

Very lively, active involvement of the children, informative. Castle Vale School

Fantastic presentation – I really believe in this part of a child’s education, parents find this topic of drugs difficult to address so it is vital outside agencies approach this difficult subject. David was sincere, he did not preach, he talked in a very accessible language – saying it how it is. This presentation was definitely suitable for the target audience and I liked the positive message of sports, talents and music rather than the don’t about drugs. David’s enthusiasm and humour were refreshing to a tired topic, he really brought it to life. Very CLEAR! I really enjoyed it, I really enjoyed it, dinner ladies joined in, plus a group of family learning enjoyed it too. A terrific response from the students excellent – FAB 10/10. Holy Trinity School

Excellent performance, very appropriate for our year 7. The children were engaged and involved at all times, David’s charisma maintained the children’s attention, I am sure that the children heard the message and learned a lot. Holy Trinity School

David has lots of energy – good response from pupils, much more interactive than expected. A serious matter interspersed with activities – shorts bursts of drugs awareness throughout worked well, teachers impressed by the show and students really enjoyed it.
Holy Trinity School

This is the 2nd year Four Dwellings have been involved in the Natural high Schools Programme and I would hope this will continue for future year 7 groups. We have been recently awarded the Healthy Schools status and this programme complements our PHSE and Citizenship. The small helpline cards for each pupil is a good idea, again for the 2nd year running staff present were impressed.
Four Dwellings High School

Excellent in all respects, lively and well presented presentation, very enjoyable, good connection and involvement with pupils.
Four Dwellings High School

The message was clearly presented, David’s enthusiasm was very engaging to the audience. The use of music was a good way to involved the students, especially those who are usually reticent. The MegaBowl sponsored cards were a good idea, motivates the students to hang onto the card. Enjoyable and useful for PHSE. Bordesley Green Girls School

Pupils encouraged to join in through a very thoughtful way. Entertaining and pitched at the right level, the students enjoyed it and joined in. Bordesley Green Girls School

Connected with the pupils – got the message across. Teacher found it interesting and the students enjoyed themselves.

We look forward to your return next year and giving another year group the same fantastic experience.”
Head Of Year 7 - Washwood Heath Technology College – Stechford

Treated the audience with respect & laughed & joked with them, holding their attention at all times, especially during the serious times. It was much better than I had anticipated and fits in with our present curriculum needs. The year 7’s really enjoyed it; the card idea is very good especially with the offer on the back giving them an extra reason to hold onto it. You achieved the aim in entertaining children whilst promoting a very important message, the teachers were all included in the presentation and the children seemed very enthusiastic and were very keen to keep hold of all the information on the cards.” Stockland Green School – Erdington

Very inclusive, well differentiated in terms of resources (music, vocal, competition, written) an incredibly positive message as well as pushing the negatives and consequences of drugs. Vibrant, high energy – held pupils attention fully! Good to re-iterate the FRANK booklet and anti-social behaviour. Suitable language and clear strong message, focus on future information outside of school is useful. A wide variety of help lines and information both verbal and in leaflets. Very successful in getting over the Positive Healthy Lifestyles/Natural High message especially using music to promote it, teachers thought it was an excellent presentation & students really enjoyed it.”
Washwood Heath Technology College – Stechford

The subject in the presentation was very good and linked to Citizenship needs; it gives the teachers a chance to take on board issues discussed. David Graham was very lively and so enthusiastic, along with his song Natural High and personal life experiences promoted the messages really well. The competition and messages about drugs convey message about the importance of being active, i.e. sport competition, mind and fame. Teachers also found it exciting too and were happy that the pupils were interacting and enjoying the performance. The students were excited and attentive for the session which was very good.”
Holte Visual & Performing Arts College - Lozells

The way David manages the students is second to none. Not many teachers can hype pupils up and then command silence as quickly or professionally. The presentation was up to the usual high standard, we actually timetabled the Personal Safety Programme in Citizenship to coincide with the presentation, even the quiet pupils got involved.”
